Stop stressing about the back-to-school classroom setup chaos! It doesn’t have to be so difficult and you can start the year off with a successful bang, I promise. Let’s start with organizing for students.

Organizing for multiple grades AND multiple subjects AND for multiple teachers and para, oh my. These flatter storage cases are my go-to so I can put everything I’d need in it for each instructional period. My groups for my class have to be flexible in that sometimes learning might be at the back table, hallway, conference room, outside, etc depending on what the day brings.

I pack these full of the instructions/learning outcome directions, worksheets, book copies, highlighters, pencils, timers, explicit skill cards, manipulatives, whatever my staff would need for that group of students or student.

Plus, you can then label each one so everyone know where to find what they need without interrupting your instruction. Bonus, use color coded ones per grade level, subject, para, etc.

Check out all my tips on Instagram.

And don’t forget about folders - color coded ones, in fact. I love to grab a rainbow of colors, assign one color to each grade level I teach and then label each folder per student. I pack all sorts of needed items in their folders:

IEP goals
Accommodations
Visuals (if needed)
Data collection forms
Progress monitoring forms
Grade level skill work
Notes to my staff (if needed)

Next up, paraprofessionals! Give them a home base, please!!! Organize your room to MAKE YOUR STAFF FEEL PART OF YOUR TEAM. I’ll say it again…MAKE THEM FEEL PART OF YOUR TEAM.

I wouldn’t be able to do my job without all the paras I have had past and present. I have grown into a better teacher and friend because of it, too. They are amazing. Here are my MUST HAVES for classroom set up.

>Mailboxes: they get mail, too.

>Staff Bulletin Board: include their names as TEACHERS.

>Staff Handbooks: signed, dotted and received.

>Staff Storage: space for their belongings in one spot.

>Staff Calendar: posted so everyone knows the day, week, school events, etc.

>Staff Snack Space: because our jobs are stressful and sometimes we need some sweet and salty.

Lastly, don't forget about yourself. Keep it simple and stock up on what you love for every aspect of getting back in the classroom with new sets of students.
